National Doctors’ Day is here, observed in India on July 1 to honor and recognize the dedication and sacrifices of physicians. At EarlySalary, we take this occasion to thank doctors for their tireless work. Let’s reflect on what they have endured and achieved over the past year.
The COVID-19 pandemic has been difficult for everyone, but especially for doctors. While the rest of society contended with lockdowns, uncertainty, and personal challenges, doctors worked day and night to save lives. The respect and gratitude many feel toward the medical profession have increased profoundly during this crisis.
Contributions during the pandemic
Doctors have worked around the clock to protect patients and limit societal harm. The absence of a definitive cure for COVID-19 made their work even more demanding, as clinicians faced a new virus and evolving clinical knowledge.
Beyond treating patients, doctors have shouldered the emotional burden of reassuring families and communicating difficult news. They have maintained care through phone calls and video consultations when in-person visits were not possible, often extending shifts to 15–18 hours a day.
Global healthcare systems have been stretched thin, and many medical workers lost their lives treating others. Like soldiers on a frontline, doctors have traveled across regions and countries to offer support, helping set up ICUs and COVID wards to required standards.
Physicians were instrumental in designing ICU layouts, air-exchange systems, donning and doffing areas, and the selection and setup of ventilators and monitors. They developed and updated protocols as scientific evidence evolved, incorporating new learnings to improve patient outcomes.
Before training other medical staff, doctors reviewed research and evidence from around the world. Patient-care decisions were made after careful discussion and analysis, and this evidence-based approach, combined with patient resilience, helped many people recover from COVID-19.
Sacrifices and struggles
Healthcare workers are particularly vulnerable to highly infectious diseases like COVID-19. Every day these selfless professionals faced life-or-death situations while distancing themselves from family and loved ones. To prevent transmission, many doctors chose not to return home after shifts and lived in separate accommodations.
While most people struggle to wear masks for short periods, doctors endured long hours in personal protective equipment (PPE). PPE protects against biological hazards and contaminated surfaces, but wearing it for more than seven hours can be exhausting. Still, doctors donned this protective gear day after day and followed strict sanitization routines before and after hospital duties to keep their families safe.
In spite of their commitment, some medical professionals faced hostility, abuse, or eviction from their landlords due to fear and misinformation. The psychological toll of witnessing repeated deaths and suffering has been immense. Yet, despite trauma and hardship, doctors continued to put on their masks and PPE and report for duty.
EarlySalary salutes doctors’ fighting spirit!
Doctors have risked their own safety with unwavering dedication to save others. They have been our true protectors during these trying times. The least we can do to show appreciation is to follow public-health guidance, stay home when advised, and cooperate with healthcare professionals.
To every doctor: thank you for everything you do. You have our deepest gratitude.
We hope the pandemic ends soon so medical professionals can get the rest they deserve. To help make that possible, everyone should follow government and health authority guidance and take precautions that reduce the burden on healthcare systems.
At Fibe, we remain committed to supporting our customers. While we cannot match the sacrifices of doctors, we offer practical assistance, including medical emergency loans for those facing health crises. Stay safe and stay healthy.
